Isaiah 9:2 – “The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined.”
Salvation and freedom come not by our own efforts, but through Christ Jesus, the great light foretold by Isaiah. In Him, darkness flees, and the shadow of death gives way to eternal hope. The Holy Spirit illuminates our hearts, guiding us from despair to the radiance of His grace. Watchman Nee writes, “Christ is the light that shines in us, breaking the power of darkness” (The Normal Christian Life), calling us to walk in His brilliance.
Isaiah prophesied a world lost in sin, where the law revealed guilt but offered no escape. Yet Christ, the promised light, dawned with a new covenant, written in His blood, banishing the shadows of condemnation. We who once stumbled now see, transformed by His love. C.S. Lewis declares, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen… because by it I see everything else” (Is Theology Poetry?), urging us to view life through Christ’s light. John Bunyan’s pilgrim, emerging from darkness, said, “The shining of His countenance is my salvation” (The Pilgrim’s Progress), reflecting the hope we find in Jesus.
The Spirit empowers us to reflect this light, sharing His truth with those still in darkness, living as beacons of His grace.
