The Power of Identity

The Power of Identity

Understanding Who We Are in Christ

As believers, we often struggle to remember who we are in Christ.

We get caught up in our daily lives, faced with challenges and temptations, and forget that we are children of the King.

But the Bible reminds us that our identity is rooted in Christ, and that understanding this truth can transform our lives.

In 1 Corinthians 3:23, we read,

“Ye are Christ’s.”

This simple yet profound statement reminds us that we belong to Christ, and that He has purchased us with His own blood (Acts 20:28).

The Father purchased us to be Christs possession.

As the apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20,

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

But what does it mean to be Christ’s?

According to John 15:15-16, Jesus says,

“Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you,

and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit…”

We are not just servants or slaves; we are friends of Jesus Christ.

As C.S. Lewis writes in his book Mere Christianity,

“The Christian way is different: harder and easier. Christ says

‘Give me All. I don’t want so much of your time and so much of your money and so much of your work:

I want You.’”

When we understand that we belong to Christ, we begin to see ourselves as His ambassadors on earth (2 Corinthians 5:20).

But how do we live out this identity?

In Romans 12:1-2, Paul urges us to present our bodies as living sacrifices to God, holy and acceptable unto Him.

He writes, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”

We must continually renew our minds with Scripture (Romans 12:2) and seek to live according to His will.

As my favorite author Charles Spurgeon once said ,

“To believe on Him is not only a saving act but also an abiding attitude.”

Our faith must be more than just an event – it must become a lifestyle.

When faced with temptation or sin , let us remember who we are – children of God .

As Hebrews 4 :16 says,

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace ,that we may obtain mercy ,and find grace to help in time of need”

According to what John Piper wrote about how he handles trials :

“when faced trials use them as occasion for worship him even more”.

And finally when feeling discouraged let’s read from Psalm51

“ Have mercy upon me O Lord according unto thy lovingkindness (♾️Hesed)

Create within me clean heart oh God Renew your Spirit within me”
