Christ, Our Life: Finding Purpose and Strength in Him

Christ, Our Life: Finding Purpose and Strength in Him

As children of the one true God, saved by His grace and our faith in Jesus Christ, we have a profound reason to live. The apostle Paul writes in Colossians 3:4, “Christ, who is our life.” In this blog, we’ll explore what it means to have Christ as our life and how this truth can empower us to face life’s challenges with purpose and strength.

A Life Defined by Christ

The Christian life is not just about following a set of rules or moral codes; it’s about having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. As Watchman Nee writes, “The Christian life is not a matter of trying to be good, but of receiving the life of Christ” (The Normal Christian Life). When we accept Christ as our Savior, we receive His life, and He becomes our reason for living.

The Power of Purpose

Having a clear purpose in life can give us the strength to face adversity. As Nietzsche says, “He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.” As Christians, our “why” is Christ. He is our purpose, our passion, and our driving force. As Charles Spurgeon puts it, “If Christ is not the center of your life, then your life is off-center” (The Treasury of David).

A Life of Faith

Living a life with Christ at the center requires faith. As the apostle Paul writes in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” This faith is not just a one-time event, but a daily surrender to Christ’s will. As AW Tozer writes, “Faith is not a static thing, but a dynamic, living, growing thing” (The Pursuit of God).

Surrendering to Christ

To have Christ as our life, we must surrender our lives to Him. As DL Moody writes, “The greatest hindrance to the work of God in the world is the unyielded self” (The Overcoming Life). When we surrender our lives to Christ, we experience true freedom and joy. As Cs Lewis puts it, “The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us” (Mere Christianity).

Having Christ as our life gives us a sense of purpose and strength. As we surrender our lives to Him and live by faith, we experience the power of His life in us. May we, like the apostle Paul, say with confidence, “Christ, who is our life.” May we live our lives with Christ at the center, and may His life be our driving force.
