“but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.””
Proverbs 1:33 NIV

This verse, Proverbs 1:33, is part of the first chapter of the book of Proverbs, which is an Old Testament book in the Bible. The verse is an invitation to seek wisdom and the benefits that come with it.
The verse can be broken down into two parts:
“Whoever listens to me”
* “Whoever” is an inclusive term that refers to anyone who is willing to listen.
(Matthew 7:24, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”)

* “Listens” is a verb that means “to pay attention to” or “to follow.”
(Psalm 81:13, “If my people would but listen to me, if Israel would follow my ways”)
* “To me” implies that the speaker is the source of wisdom. In the context of the book of Proverbs, the speaker is likely King Solomon, who is credited with writing most of the book.
However, since the verse begins with “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (Proverbs 1:7),
it can be inferred that the speaker is ultimately God, who is the source of all wisdom.
(James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”)
“Will live in safety and be at peace, without fear of harm.”
* “Will live in safety” suggests that those who listen to and follow God’s wisdom will live a life free from danger or harm.
(Psalm 4:8, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.”)
* “Will be at peace” can be interpreted as “will be free from anxiety.”
(Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”)
* “Without fear of harm” implies that the person who follows God’s wisdom will not have to live in fear of bad things happening to them.
This fear can encompass a wide range of things, from physical harm to spiritual or emotional distress.
(Psalm 23:4, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”)
In essence, the verse is saying that if you listen to and follow God’s wisdom, you will be able to live a peaceful, safe, and secure life.
You will be free from fear and anxiety because you will know that God is in control and is looking out for your well-being.
In a broader sense, the verse can be applied to anyone who seeks wisdom and guidance in life.
If you are willing to listen to and learn from those who are wiser and more experienced, you will be more likely to make good decisions and avoid harmful situations.
This, in turn, can lead to a more peaceful and secure life.
(Proverbs 13:20, “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.”)
